On February 11, I had the opportunity to teach a design and Canva workshop at Mumtaza Junior High School. It was a new experience for me, as I usually speak to adults, from junior officers to senior officers in government institutions.
Teaching young students felt different. I wanted to ensure my lesson was truly relevant to their needs—whether as students or aspiring designers. Then I asked myself: What would I have needed at their age? My answer was clear—inspiration.
So instead of focusing solely on technical topics like color, layout, grids, and how to use Canva, I started with my own story. I shared how my childhood love for drawing, designing event backdrops in high school, and working on wall magazines eventually led me to work on an international level. From becoming a creative director on the official media and communication team for events like the G20 Summit, the 42nd & 43rd ASEAN Summits, and the AIS Summit, to collaborating with big-name companies, my journey showed them what’s possible.
The result? It was incredible. The session felt much more fun and fulfilling than my usual talks with adults. Some students were genuinely curious, asking insightful questions about design and how they could pursue it as a career.
It was an experience I truly enjoyed, and I’d love to do it again.
